Ideal for honeymooners, families, and divers alike, Mozambique’s island destinations such as Bazaruto and Benguerra offer top-rated lodges, incredible diving, and abundant marine life. In 2026, travelers will find improved access, eco-friendly resorts, and even more opportunities for sustainable island adventures. Explore the Bazaruto Archipelago

Explore the breathtaking beauty of the Bazaruto Archipelago, a pristine paradise off the coast of Vilanculos, Mozambique. This protected marine reserve is famed for its sugar-white beaches, shifting sand dunes, and turquoise lagoons teeming with marine life. Bazaruto Island, the largest in the chain, offers endless opportunities for adventure — from snorkeling colorful coral reefs at Two Mile Reef to spotting dugongs, dolphins, and migrating whales.

Climb the towering sand dunes for panoramic views over the Indian Ocean, or set out on a traditional dhow sailing trip to discover hidden coves and deserted beaches. Island-hop to nearby Benguerra, Magaruque, and Santa Carolina, each offering a unique blend of nature, history, and local culture. The crystal-clear waters invite diving, fishing, and kayaking, while luxury lodges provide elegant beachfront accommodation for relaxation after a day of exploration. Discover why the Bazaruto Archipelago is one of Africa’s most enchanting and unforgettable travel destinations.

The archipelago includes five islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Santa Carolina (Paradise Island), and Bangue. These islands offer the finest Mozambique beach holidays in 2025, whether you seek luxury villas or remote adventures.

Day Trips and Paradise Escapes in Bazaruto

From Santorini Villa Mozambique, take day trips aboard Aphrodite, a luxury catamaran, to explore Paradise Island (Santa Carolina) and the rich coral reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago.

Santa Carolina is famous for its abandoned 1950s hotel, three surrounding coral reefs, and a history that even inspired Bob Dylan’s song “Mozambique.” Spend your day snorkeling vibrant reefs teeming with tropical fish, strolling along deserted beaches, and discovering the ruins of the once-glamorous hotel now reclaimed by nature. Aphrodite also sails to nearby islands such as Bazaruto, Benguerra, and Magaruque, where you can swim in crystal-clear lagoons, encounter dolphins and turtles, and enjoy freshly prepared seafood picnics on the beach. Experienced crew members guide each excursion, ensuring an unforgettable adventure combining luxury, nature, and local heritage. These island-hopping day trips offer an unbeatable way to experience the Bazaruto Archipelago’s unspoiled beauty and rich marine biodiversity.

Beyond Santa Carolina, day trips from Vilanculos can take you to other gems in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Explore Bazaruto Island’s dramatic dunes and inland lakes, snorkel the vibrant coral gardens of Two Mile Reef, or relax on the pristine shores of Benguerra Island. Magaruque Island offers tidal pools and long deserted beaches perfect for beachcombing. Each island promises its own unique adventure, with abundant marine life, crystal-clear waters, and breathtaking tropical scenery.

Sustainability Focus for island holidays in Mozambique 2025: Island conservation efforts now include coral restoration projects supported by day-trip operators, giving visitors the chance to participate in marine conservation during their holiday.
